The Black Galaxy Granite is a mostly black granite with small gold or white flecks. Black galaxy granite is available in a number of finishes including polished and honed and available in both slabs and tiles. This material can have a dark black background, a dark black/green tinge or black with grey/white pinhead sized spotting. All will have golden specks in them however there are two distinct types: small/medium flake and large flake. It is mainly used for flooring, cladding, kitchen counters and table tops. It looks best when it is glossy but is also suitable for flamed (thermal), honed, river-washed, leather and brushed finishes. Available in both slabs and tiles.There are many different quarries of Black Galaxy granite, the background colour and flecking can vary considerably. For large projects ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. One of the quarrying area is in Chimakurthi, Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, South India (approx. 350 km north of Chennai) where one would find about 50 Black Galaxy Granite quarries however not all operate 12 months of the year.
