In the past, marble was mined through various methods, including:

1. Quarrying: Marble was cut out of mountainsides using hand tools like chisels, hammers, and wedges. This was a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, and it would often take months to extract a single block of marble.

2. Block Extraction: The block extraction method involved drilling holes around a block of marble and ing wooden wedges. Water was then poured into the holes, causing the wedges to expand and the block to crack off the mountain.

3. Wire Sawing: Later, wire saws were introduced, which made the extraction of marble blocks much faster and easier. Wire saws consisted of a diamond-coated wire that could be put around a block of marble and used to saw through it.

4. Channeling: This method involved cutting channels into the marble using chisels and hammers. Wedges were then ed into the channels, and the marble block was lifted out with the help of ropes and pulleys.

5. Explosives: Explosives were also used to extract marble blocks. Holes were drilled into the rock, and dynamite was ed. When the explosives were detonated, the marble block would crack and break off the mountain.

Overall, marble mining was an arduous process that required a lot of skill and labor. Today, technology has made the process much faster and safer, but the basic principles of extraction remain the same.
