Travertine get its name for that there are many pores on the surface, which is a kind of porous rock. So, it also called as hole stone.
Travertine belongs to the continental sedimentary rock, it is a kind of the sediments for calcium carbonate. Travertine is mostly rich in calcium carbonate which formed in the limestone terrain. It is by soluble in water of calcium carbonate and other mineral deposit on the bed, lake formed, etc. Since it may appear some pores under the heavy accumulation processing, and because of its main ingredients of calcium carbonate at the same time, it is very easy to water dissolve corrosion itself, so the deposit will appear many natural and irregular holes. The building that could represent best is the Roman culture - arenas are the primary masterpiece of travertine.
Travertine stone itself existing large gap, extremely high bibulous rate, easy to pollution, difficult to clean after pollution. In order to reduce the water absorption of the stone, prevent the pollution and aging, solve the problem of efflorescence, backwater and return black because of freezing and thawing cycle, dry-wet circulation, it should do the protection of facing type, as well as add the protective agent at the bottom. When using for the ground, you should pay attention on the sealing of the holes, you could choose the epoxy type or acrylic type resin. When using for the outer wall, reduce the water absorption should be an important index.
