In 2011 Italian imports decreased for all items taken into consideration except for granite finisheds (table 2). This is due to the substantial stagnation of orders which advised our companies not to make purchases if not strictly necessary.
Globally, Italian imports of stone materials amounted to 1,752,000 tons in 2011 for a total value of 420 million Euros, a 4.1 decrease both in terms of quantity and value. Imports decreased significantly from Egypt (-27.35 in quantity and -27.5 in value) and Tunisia (-23.1 in quantity and -21.7 in value).

Imports from India are becoming increasingly important: in 2011 these amounted to 298,758 tons for a value of approximately 76,200,000 and make India Italy's leading supplier (with a slight reduction in quantity of 2.4 a slight increase in value of 1), accounting for 19 of all Italian imports in the industry and 33 if we consider granite finisheds alone.
Imports of quality materials from India were almost equal to those from the whole of Africa, from where Italy imported 385,600 tons for a value of 82,347,000 Euros (-15.5 in quantity and -8.6 in value). Imports from Brazil, another large, grew very slightly with 188,000 tons (+1) for a value of almost 55 million Euros (+1.8).
