Would you like to own the antique appearance at your home? Have you used the travertines at home, such as for the wall, if you are planning to apply it, just don't miss out the following steps:

Step 1: Purchase the Replacement Tile

Go to any home development store and purchase travertines that match the one that you are going to replace. Take a proper measurement of the damaged tiles and then purchase accordingly. Make sure the thickness of the new tile matches with the old damaged one. For this reason it is better to purchase the replacement tiles after removing the old damaged ones. Also purchase some adhesive and grout mix from the store.

Step 2: Removing the Damaged Tiles

Use the carbide hole saw to drill a hole in the centre of the damaged tile to make an estimate of the depth of the tiles. Once this is done drill holes on the surface of the damaged travertine tile at an interval of 1 inch. Be very careful while drilling the hole and make sure you are not damaging the sub floor. If the subfloor is damaged, it is a difficult repair and so you must be careful from the beginning. Once the holes are drilled properly use the chisel to remove sections of the damageds. Use the hammer for getting more leverage and you can also use a putty knife for removing the tiles from the floor. You can use a chipping hammer for removing the travertine tiles very fast and efficiently as they crumble easily.

Step 3: Preparing the Surface

Once the damaged tile is removed, use the chisel or an awl to remove the grout from the adjacent tiles. Use a knife to scrape the old adhesive or mortar from the floor where the damaged tile was present. You must make sure that the floor is smooth and there are no uneven parts present on the floor. Doing so ensures that the new tile will fit in perfectly and it will also last long. If the flooring is damaged while removing the old tile, repair it before installing the new travertine tile.

Step 4: Installing the New Tile

Once the floor is prepared and you have purchased the new travertine tiles it is now time to install them. Measure the portion from which you have removed the old travertine tile and if necessary cut the new tile with a wet tilt saw to get a perfect fit. Apply a thin layer of mortar or adhesive on the wall and press the new tile in position. Allow the adhesive or mortar to dry and then apply grout for sealing the joints.
