Popular in entryways, kitchens, and bathrooms, travertine slabs bring a natural elegance to any home or commercial property. We particularly recommend them for kitchen countertops.

Despite being porous, travertine is actually an extremely long-lasting stone. Due to its scratch resistance, it's usually very durable and easy to maintain. Ideal for homes with pets or kids, it's the type of natural stone that you don't have to worry about after installing.

Disadvantages
Nevertheless, there are some cons to consider. Acid can etch and discolor the surface of travertine. Therefore, you must be diligent when handling acidic foods on a travertine countertop. Be sure to clean up any spills of substances like coffee, orange juice, or wine immediately. Sealing will protect the surface from staining, but it's always best to be careful.

Additionally, travertine is a softer stone, which means it's prone to scratching. It's also not heat resistant, so hot objects cannot be placed directly on its surface.

Design
There are several types of travertine finishes on the market, such as tumbled, honed, brushed, filled, filled & honed, chiselled, bush hammered and polished. It comes in a variety of styles and colors.

Due to its porous nature, travertine tile has many holes, which can be filled with cement. For countertops, we recommend filled travertine slabs. Before buying, be sure to ask our professionals whether the stone is honed or filled.

Maintenance
To prevent staining, we recommend periodic re-sealing.

To clean your travertine slab, you should use a neutral pH cleaner specially made for natural stone. Do not use any cleaners with harsher chemicals or acid.
