Marble Industry in Syria

Syria is famous in stone - marble - mosaic and other Damascus art works and that from the ancient age. The geographic place and the variety colored of its stones and many other conditions, help it to be a renowned country in and granite art works.


There are some small quarries which produce little amount of dark beige - light beige - dark black and red marble, but for the natural effects and its bit amount and its coordinating, there is no desired to invest and export it , in addition to that , all Syrian quarries are under control from the public company of marble which is a governmental association has the right to export only and that disable to the private companies which is missing in Syria.


Syria depended on export some of itss and art works to some countries as: Arabic gulf - Athens - Cyprus - France - USA - UK - Australia - Germany - Italy - Jordan.


Since 1980 until middle of 2000, Syria prevents export marble , so theion were very bad and you could find only 45 - 50 cutting machines for marble and no factory for industry.


At the beginning of 2001 and with the economic development in Syria, the industry of marble has refreshed after allowing to export blocks of marble from all countries worldwide, so many factories which specialized in marble and granite has established, and many processing products lines of marble and has purchased and reached until the end of 2006 to: Turkey : 72 various machine : cuttings of marble - polished machines for marbles treating lines - other machines.


Italy: 27 various machines: cutting slabs of marble and granite - Watergate - polished machines for slabs.


India: 16 various machines: cutting slabs of marble - polished machines -filters for treating water.


Other countries: 8 various machines: Watergate - filters for treating water.


The number of marble factories in Syria reaches until the end of 2006 to: 1000 factory for marble and stone.
